Answers

Q. What makes HairZing so unique?
A. Our designs have both Utility and Design Patent protection in the USA and patents pending internationally. HairZing is based on the principle of "stretch and contraction." It adapts to EVERY type of woman's hair -thick, thin, long, short, and curly. You have all the control necessary to set the holding power in motion. Just stretch the combs far apart to make the hold snug and firm. For a looser hold, don't stretch them as much.. HairZing is made by women for women…and you'll feel the difference that makes!

Q. Will the combs show in my hair?
A. NO. Once the combs tuck underneath your hair, they are completely invisible. Even black combs will not show through light blond, thin hair.

Q. How do HairZings work?
A. Forget everything you know about wearing normal hair combs. HairZing combs actually operate "backwards". You place one in your hair first, hold it, stretch the second and flip it under to face the first comb. The soft contour of the combs fits the curved shape of your head. The bands are made of resin and elastomers which are stronger than rubber bands so they stretch and contract to hold the combs snugly in place, but never damage or break you hair like rubber bands will.

Q. Will HairZing hold in fine, thin hair?
A. Absolutely! In fact the designer, Francesca Kuglen, has baby thin, fine hair that falls out if you look at it wrong. For fine, thin hair we recommend either using a SKINNY width (Skinny's have the ABSOLUTE snuggest hold), or choosing either a MEDIUM or LARGE size with the combs stretched far apart AND/OR with a "Butterfly" in the center. Butterfly twists makes the grip tighter on ANY HairZing.

Q. Will HairZing hold in thick, heavy hair?
A. YES. The recommendations we have for women with thick, heavy hair is to choose the Large size when you want to wear ponytails or your hair up in buns, rolls, French Twists, etc. AVOID the Skinny width because it will feel uncomfortably tight in your hair. You'll also like the MEDIUM size for holding back sections of hair but you won't be able to put ALL your hair up inside a Medium size.

Q. Will HairZings give me a headache or damage my hair?
A. No. In fact, many women love HairZings precisely because they are so "hair healthy". The combs and mesh balance and evenly distribute the weight of your hair to help avoid headaches. The tension between the combs is 100% adjustable so if the "hold" ever feels too tight, simply push the combs closer together toward the center of your head. Their grip will immediately loosen. The weave and design of the comb is specially designed to allow hair to pass cleanly through the teeth without catching or breaking. We take care to completely finish all comb surfaces so they have smooth, rounded edges.

Q. Are the combs comfortable? Will they lose teeth or break?
A. We are comb connoisseurs and extremely proud of the lightweight yet uber strong design. Most women report they cannot feel the combs at all, just the snug, comfortable hold of the bands stretching between the combs. Francesca specifically chose a strong, flexible metal wire as the result of years of experience working with (and wearing) plastic combs. Plastic breaks and shatters, no matter how strong it is. She wanted something superior, to withstand the rigors of a real woman's life. It had to be able to be wedged into a purse, diaperbag, backpack or glove compartment, while being able to spring back to life if it were run over by a bicycle, stroller, or RV. We think you'll find the combs to be adaptable to whatever rigors you inflict upon them.

Q. How long does my hair have to be to wear HairZing?.
A. We generally say "shoulder length or longer", but we have MANY happy customers (including one of the founders of the company) who are devotees and have shorter hair than shoulder length. It honestly depends on your unique hair type, but everyone can at least wear their sides or bangs back.

Q. How many hair styles can I make with HairZing?
A. That depends on what type of hair you have. For example, women with thin SHORT hair will be able to make an average of 1-4 different hair styles, but women with shoulder length medium texture hair will be able to create over 15 different styles (or more!) Check out the Choose by Hair Style and Choose the Right HairZing for your Hair sections. They illustrate hair styles that are easiest to create for specific hair types, textures and lengths.

Q. What is the difference between the LARGE and MEDIUM sizes?.
A. LARGE: LENGTH along spine of comb: 4.5 inches. WIDTH across stretch bands: 3 - 3.25 inches.
This is the largest HairZing size we offer, a core basic in our line, AND our best selling size. LARGE is the best option for medium to thick hair because of its capacity to hold lots of hair, but it can also be "Butterflied" in the center (a twist) to tighten the hold on sleek, thin and fine hair.

MEDIUM: LENGTH along spine: 3 inches (One full inch shorter than the Large size) WIDTH: 3 inches across the stretch bands.
The MEDIUM is very popular and our most versatile size. Mediums look smaller in the hair, and can be used by everyone to hold back SECTIONS of hair. For FINE and THIN hair, this size will hold ALL your hair. For THICK and HEAVY hair Medium sizes are generally too small to hold up ALL your hair, but can still be used effectively for sections of hair. The MEDIUM is very popular and our most versatile size.

Q. What is the difference between ORIGINAL and SKINNY Widths?
A. ORIGINAL width measures 3 - 3.25 inches across the stretch bands. This gives it enough S-T-R-E-T-C-H to expand and contract and hold a lot of hair.
Our SKINNY width is only 2.5 inches across so it has a very SNUG hold. When worn in even the finest, thinnest hair the SKINNY will not slip or loosen, even during exercise.

We currently offer the SKINNY in limited designs, but are planning to expand the line as more women understand its unique design. Please let us know what you think.

Q. What makes HairZing different from other hair accessories?
A. Claw clips: If you like claw clips, you'll love HairZings! The most important difference is you can lean your head back, lay your head down, or even wear a bicycle helmet with HairZing. Most claw slips stick out from your head where the hinge is located. If you try to lean back in an airplane seat for a nap or put on a helmet for sports, the claw clip will dig into your head; you have to take the claw clip out of your hair to be comfortable. You can wear your HairZing all day, doing all activities, including a little shut-eye.

Rubber bands, elastics and scrunchies: Want a ponytail with more bounce? Since you are not tightly grabbing your hair, a HairZing ponytail will give your hair more bounce and make your hair look thicker. Additionally, rubber bands and elastics may break your hair. HairZings are "hair healthy." They gently hold and release your hair: the metal combs have no open edges and the resin bands do not constrict your hair. If rubber bands, elastics or scrunchies sometimes give you headaches, you'll enjoy relief with a HairZing.

Q. Can HairZing be worn in the water?
A. YES. In fact, unless stated otherwise on the individual packaging, HairZings can be safely worn in steam rooms, swimming pools, oceans, lakes, rivers and ponds. They also work great in blizzards, typhoons and tornadoes. The metal has a protective finish coating, and our resins, elastics and beads are not adversely affected by moisture.

Q. What is the best way to care for my HairZing?
A. (Try not to run over it with your car.) HairZings clean up quickly by either wiping with a damp cloth or rinsing under water and patting dry with a soft cloth. To avoid tangling, store and carry your HairZings in the protective pouch they come in.

Q. Will the bands break if I stretch them too far?
A. It is possible, but not easy to do, under normal circumstances. Our resin and stretch bands are created from extremely strong materials and designed to s-t-r-e-t-c-h and contract without breaking. Realistically you won't be stretching the combs more than 6 inches apart and our bands are very capable of that size stretch.

Q. What is the return policy?
A. Click here for our return policy.

Q. Do all of the HairZing styles fit and feel the same?
A. The HOLDING power is the same, but they are unique depending on size and design. Here are some guidelines:

Skinny widths (2.5 inches) are the tightest. They are an excellent choice for thin, fine and sleek hair. Generally they will be too tight for women with thick hair to wear comfortably.

Large original widths (3 to 3.25 inches) are best for Medium to Thick hair. It is the ONLY choice for women with thick long hair who wish to pull ALL their hair up off the neck, the Medium size and Skinny width are too small .

HairZings made with heavy faceted crystal beads tend to be a touch heavier than styles with lighter beads such as bamboo, smaller glass beads, etc.

Q. How did you come up with the HairZing name?
A. When the Trademark office told us Coca Cola, Microsoft and Hershey's were already taken, we decided to come up with something more original. Actually, we began with the name "Hair Hugger" and for a brief time licensed the product under "Hair Genie," but on the fateful day we decided to build a company around this product we realized we wanted something fresh and NEW to match our direction. We like "Z" as a sound and a letter, and are aware that many women refer to their hair accessories as "my hair THING" so voila! "HairZing" was born.

Q. Who designs the products?
A. Francesca Kuglen and our product development team. We actively seek customer feedback on colors, designs, sizes, finishes, textures, and fashion styles because YOU are our laboratory. The input from brides and hairstylists moves us in one direction, while the athletes who call us are generally looking for something else. Underneath it all is the belief that women should be able to do whatever they want to do without worrying about their hair.

Q. Where are your products manufactured?
A. HairZings are manufactured by hand in China and beginning in 2007 in Kenya by the women of the Maasai tribe. Many of our upcoming bridal pieces will be made by hand here in the USA.

Q. Where else can I find HairZings?
A. Currently, HairZing is available in only two places---HERE online, or through QVC (the television shopping channel). You can watch us LIVE on QVC (click here for a list of upcoming show times) or to be notified via email when we will be on-air (click here to sign up for reminders).
