A. HairZing operates on an ORIGINAL concept, and we've received multiple patents to prove it. (#7,748,390, #6,123,086, # D518,599, #D532,551 and International patents pending).
Most accessories must put pressure on your hair to hold in place. HairZing is the ONLY accessory that holds snugly without exerting any pressure on your hair or clamping down onto it. Our combs and bands work together, balancing the weight of your hair between them, preventing headaches and pinching. Additionally, HairZing combs have no open edges to catch hair, our resin resists tangling and attaching to your hair, and HairZing's lay FLAT -this is the only hair accessory you can slip a helmet over easily.
Wear one all day - during any activity - lean your head back on any surface, and you'll forget it's in place!
If it doesn't have our metal "hairzing" logo tag attached, it is—unfortunately—a copy.
A. No. Once the combs tuck underneath your hair, they are completely invisible. Even black combs will not show through light blond, thin hair.
A. HairZing is based on the principle of "stretch and contraction." It adapts to EVERY type of woman's hair -- thick, thin, long, short, and curly. You have all the control necessary to set the holding power in motion. Just stretch the combs far apart to make the hold snug and firm. For less hold, don't stretch them as much.

A. Absolutely! In fact, the Chief Creative Officer Francesca Kuglen, has thin, fine hair that falls out if you look at it wrong. For fine, thin hair we recommend either using a SKINNY size (Skinny HairZings have the ABSOLUTE tightest hold), or choosing a MEDIUM.
A. YES. We recommend women with thick, heavy hair choose the LARGE size and our PERFECT PONYTAILER when you want to wear ponytails or your hair up in buns, rolls, French Twists, etc. You'll also like the MEDIUM size for holding back only sections of hair. Unless your thick hair is fine or sleek--AVOID the SKINNY size. It will feel uncomfortably tight on you.
A. No. In fact, many women love HairZings precisely because they are so "hair friendly". The combs and beaded mesh balance and evenly distribute the weight of your hair to help avoid headaches. The tension between the combs is 100% adjustable. If the "hold" is too tight, simply push the combs closer together toward the center of your head. Their grip will immediately loosen in your hair. The combs are specially designed to allow hair to pass cleanly through the teeth without catching or breaking. We take care to finish all comb surfaces so they have smooth, rounded edges.
A. We are comb connoisseurs and extremely proud of our lightweight, strong designs. Most women report they cannot feel the combs at all, just the snug, comfortable hold of the bands stretching in between.
Beaded HairZing: Completely Handmade wire combs. We start with a strong, flexible metal wire which we weave and twist into a superior comb able to withstand the rigors of a real woman's life. The teeth are strong and designed to bend and not break.
Casual Stretch Bands: We could not find a comfortable plastic comb, so we designed our own! Using the most earth-friendly plastic available, we molded soft, comfortable, STRONG plastic combs that are used on our "Zingers" - the stretch band version we sell without beads. As comfortable as our wire combs, but made to balance our strong Zinger stretch elastics (100% made to our specifications. Not available anywhere else.)
A. Hair should be shoulder length to put it all up into a twist or bun. However, to pull back bangs or sections, shorter hair works great.
A. Women with thin, fine shorter hair will be able to style an average of 1-4 different hair styles, but women with longer, thicker hair types will be able to create over 15 different styles.
A. LARGE: Best for medium / thick hair of all lengths. It is designed to hold lots of hair up into buns, rolls and twists with a longer comb than the MEDIUM size. The "woven mesh" between the combs is a full inch wider, and stretches to accommodate thick, curly hair.
LENGTH along spine of comb: 4.5 inches. WIDTH of stretch bands: 3 - 3.25 inches.
MEDIUM: Everyone can wear a MEDIUM to hold back BANGS or SECTIONS of hair (for example: a half up / half down) style. The MEDIUM has a smaller comb than either the LARGE or SKINNY sizes so although it will hold SHORT, FINE / THIN or SLEEK hair up into a twist or bun, for THICK and HEAVY hair, MEDIUM sizes are generally too small to hold all your hair up. If you try a MEDIUM and it begins to slide out of your hair, call us and we'll replace it with a LARGE size instead.
LENGTH along spine of comb: 3 inches (One full inch shorter than the Large size) WIDTH of stretchbands : 3 inches
SKINNY: The SKINNY size provides the TIGHTEST hold of any our HairZing sizes. It was designed to stay snugly in place during an active day, even in the sleekest of hair, without slipping.
LENGTH along spine of comb: 4.5 inches. WIDTH across stretch bands: 2.5 - 2.75 inches.
A. YES. In fact, unless stated otherwise on the individual packaging, HairZings can be safely worn in steam rooms, swimming pools, oceans, lakes, rivers and ponds. They also work great in blizzards, typhoons and tornadoes. The metal has a protective finish coating, and our resins, elastics and beads are not adversely affected by moisture.
A. (Try not to run over it with your car.) HairZings clean up quickly by either wiping with a damp cloth or rinsing under water and patting dry with a soft cloth. To avoid tangling, store and carry your HairZings in the Earth Friendly biodegradable Travel Pouch they come in.
A. It is possible, but difficult to do under normal circumstances. Our resin and stretch bands are created from extremely strong materials and designed to s-t-r-e-t-c-h without breaking. Realistically you won't be stretching the combs more than 6 inches apart and our bands are more than capable of that size stretch.
A. When the Trademark office told us Coca Cola, Microsoft and Hershey's were already taken, we decided to come up with something more original. Actually, we began with the name "Hair Hugger" and for a brief time licensed the product under "Hair Genie," but on the fateful day we decided to build a company around this product we realized we wanted something fresh and NEW to match our direction. We like "Z" as a sound and a letter, and are aware that many women refer to their hair accessories as "my hair THING" so voila! "HairZing" was born.
A. Francesca Kuglen, our product development team, and the women artisans themselves design our products. We also welcome customer feedback on colors, designs, and sizes because YOU are our laboratory. The input from brides and hairstylists moves us in one direction, while the athletes who call us are generally looking for something else.
A. HairZings are handcrafted by women working independently in small businesses and collectives in Africa, China or the USA. We don't use factory labor because HairZing is intended to create jobs and opportunities for women in rural and economically disadvantaged communities.
Every HairZing purchased supports hundreds of women and their families. Click here to read more about this aspect of our business.
